Ski Kilpisjärvi, the local way
Leave the beaten track behind and join our experienced wilderness guide on a snowshoe or ski trip to nowhere. On these “ski Kilpisjärvi” trips we take you to our own favourite locations, most of which are along routes less traveled. All routes start from within a short drive from Kilpisjärvi, both in Finnish and Norwegian fells.
We have several different locations to choose from, and together we pick a route which best suits the weather conditions, your interests and fitness level. Sitting down with your guide the day before, reading the map and planning the day is part of the journey.
Your guide will help you with the skis or snowshoes if you are not experienced with them. He’ll tell you about the arctic nature, point out prints on the snow and tell stories about life up in the north. During the trip, there will be plenty of photo opportunities, and we will stop for a lunch break at some scenic location. If there is a possibility to make a fire, we can enjoy a bit of warmth too, but often lunch means a sandwich and a hot drink from a thermos.

Skiing and snowshoeing are quite active and you will feel warm whilst moving, but will cool down very quickly. As with any outdoor activity, layer is the best solution. Please, NO COTTON, e.g jeans, t shirt or hoody. If you get hot cotton doesn’t breath and will get wet and then cool you down very quickly. Merino wool is great because it keeps you warm even if it gets wet.
