Lapland wilderness ski expedition, with guaranteed departure dates!
We designed our wilderness ski expedition holidays for the more adventurous outdoor enthusiasts. You don’t need to have much experience in winter or arctic conditions, but it helps if you have done some cross country skiing before. You can also arrive to Kilpisjärvi a couple of days beforehand and get used to skiing with our instructor.
On the short ski expeditions, we go to remote locations where there is no internet connection, electricity or running water. You have a great opportunity to disconnect of your day-to-day life. We overnight in wilderness log cabins, with varied level of facilities. Those in Finland are more basic, while the Norwegian cabins are rather comfortable.
As in all our tours, the aim is to enjoy the nature and outdoors, not push yourself to your physical limits. Our speed is moderate, we take breaks regularly and have time to take photos or just enjoy the arctic landscapes.
To participate on the Lapland wilderness ski expeditions, you need good fitness level. We provide you with skis and boots, but if you wish to bring your own, check with our guide that they are suitable for the open arctic tundra terrain. You will also need wind and waterproof clothing and a warm sleeping bag. We will send you a full gear list when you sign up for the trip.
Our guide Gareth is an experienced professional outdoor instructor, who has lived in the arctic region since 2011. He will not only guide your way, but also teach you important winter skills.
In spring 2018, we do two short ski expeditions; three countries ski tour, through Finland, Sweden and Norway, and a Halti ski expedition to the highest peak of Finland.
Learn more about Kilpisjärvi here.
|destination||Kilpisjärvi (Finland, Sweden & Norway), Kilpisjärvi (Käsivarsi Wilderness Area)|
|Prices:||Halti expedition 750€ per person, Three countries expedition 850€ per person|
Halti ski expedition starts also from Kilpisjärvi, from where we follow a route towards Halti. Conditions allowing, we will ski outside of the route and make our own way from wilderness cabin to another. Once we have conquered Halti, the highest peak of Finland, we return to Kilpisjärvi, again making our own route, but staying at the wilderness cabins along the route. The terrain is mainly open tundra, so weather conditions can get challenging at times. The route is moderate difficulty, except for the last accent to Halti and descent from the peak; those slopes are a steep, but we will take plenty of time for it.
We overnight in the reservation huts, which are very basic in their facilities.
The ski tour to Halti is more demanding than the three countries tour, so if you have very little experience, we recommend you taking the three countries tour.
